I remember that day perfectly: the Plaza de Toros de Cuenca was filled with anticipation that evening for the presentation of the posters of the San Julián Bullfighting Fair. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and curiosity. It all began with David Casas, journalist for Canal Plus Toros and Cadena SER, who hosted the event with his usual ease, while fans, bullfighting professionals, members of the media and local authorities filled every corner of the arena. At the end of the presentation, students from various bullfighting schools offered a young bull exhibition, delighting everyone present; the passion for bullfighting could be felt in every round of applause and every glance.
The fair’s festivities were announced, scheduled to take place from 24 to 28 August, featuring four bullfights, one rejoneo (bullfight on horseback), and a recortadores contest. The arena, with more than 4,700 season ticket holders, came alive upon hearing the line-ups: the debut of Iván Fandiño alongside Antonio Ferrera and Daniel Luque, the arrival of Rodolfo “El Pana”, who had barely fought in Spain, and, without a doubt, the much-anticipated “super card” on 26 August, starring Ponce, Morante, El Juli and Manzanares—a clash that promised great excitement. Also announced were the return of Fuente Ymbro and the eagerly awaited rejoneo featuring Hermoso de Mendoza, Diego Ventura, and Manuel Manzanares.
What stood out most that day, beyond the posters themselves, was the clear sense of commitment to the fair: despite challenging times, all the events were maintained, and ticket prices remained unchanged, with discounts and benefits for subscribers. It was a presentation that would be remembered—not only for the names and the line-ups, but for the passion and enthusiasm that filled every corner of the Cuenca bullring.
