“El Gallo takes flight on his day of confirmation”

The Feria of San Julián in Cuenca opened its 2018 edition with an afternoon filled with both excitement and remembrance. Around two-thirds of the arena was occupied on a cloudy yet pleasant day, with six bulls from Cebada Gago — well-presented and some of notable seriousness in appearance. The sixth bull was greeted with applause as it entered the ring.

The man of the moment was Aitor Darío “El Gallo”, who took his alternative dressed in white and silver. He impressed on his debut, cutting an ear from his first bull after a composed and confident performance, before hearing silence with a warning in the last.

Joselito Adame, wearing catafalque and silver, found little luck with his lot and left in silence after a warning in the first and again in his second.

Pepe Moral, in navy blue and jet black, could not find rhythm either, leaving to silence in both turns.

Before the opening parade, a heartfelt minute of silence was observed in memory of Félix Leal “Curro”, a long-serving employee of the Cuenca bullring for over forty years, recently deceased.

“El Juli masters the art and pardons Aguamiel”

The third event of the San Julián Fair turned into a historic afternoon. The Cuenca bullring displayed the “No tickets available” sign under a blazing sun, as the crowd witnessed El Juli grant a pardon to Aguamiel, a brave bull from José Vázquez, branded with number 65, born in July 2014, weighing 563 kilos.

The bulls from José Vázquez were correctly presented and gave varied performances, with the fourth being replaced by a substitute from the same ranch.

Morante de la Puebla, dressed in bottle green and gold, suffered jeers in his first appearance but later redeemed himself with a masterful faena that earned him two ears.

El Juli, in grey and gold, displayed his full command of the craft, cutting an ear from his first bull and two symbolic ears and a tail from the pardoned sixth.

José María Manzanares, in purple and gold, was greeted with ovations after two elegant and refined displays.

Roca Rey, in lead grey and gold, left in silence after his first and to warm applause following the sixth.

A memorable evening of passion, artistry and triumph that will remain etched in the memories of Cuenca’s aficionados.

“Triple Puerta Grande in a complete afternoon of triumph”

The fourth event of the Cuenca fair was a resounding success. On a gloomy and chilly afternoon, the trio of El Fandi, José Garrido, and Álvaro Lorenzo each exited the ring on the shoulders of the crowd, after an entertaining and triumphant afternoon that began an hour late due to heavy rain.

Four bulls from Montalvo and two from Román Sorando (4th and 5th) were fought, all well-presented and of mixed performance.

El Fandi, dressed in crimson and gold, delighted the audience with his energetic style and varied banderillas work, cutting an ear from each bull.

José Garrido, in catafalque and gold, shone with poise and composure, earning three ears across two solid performances.

Álvaro Lorenzo, in tobacco and gold, offered refined and stylish toreo, also cutting an ear from each of his bulls.

Despite the poor weather, it was an afternoon that the public thoroughly enjoyed — one filled with enthusiasm, courage, and victory.

“Diego Ventura closes San Julián with brilliance”

The Feria of San Julián concluded in grand fashion with a superb rejoneo (mounted bullfighting) performance, in which Diego Ventura once again proved why he reigns supreme in the discipline. With over two-thirds of the seats filled on a pleasant afternoon, four bulls from Pallarés and two from Benítez Cubero (4th and 5th) were fought, all correctly trimmed for rejoneo and well-presented.

Sergio Galán opened the event with an elegant, technically precise display, cutting an ear and later saluting an ovation.

Diego Ventura dominated the afternoon with brilliance and charisma, earning two ears from his second bull after an exhilarating and complete performance.

Lea Vicens, showing commitment and style, received silence in her first appearance and later cut an ear from the last bull of the fair.

The audience bid farewell to the fair with long ovations, celebrating a San Julián that ended with emotion, beauty, and triumph.
