The 2026 San Julián Fair takes shape

Cuenca’s San Julián Fair continues to evolve and in 2026 will take a significant step forward by adding a novillada with picadors to its programme. Organised by Maxitoro, the fair strengthens a format that has become one of the most complete fixtures of the summer bullfighting calendar.

The season ticket will once again feature seven consecutive days of events, a structure that has boosted the fair’s appeal and allows for a varied and continuous programme. The main addition is the inclusion of a picador novillada, aimed at giving greater visibility to emerging bullfighters and supporting the generational renewal of the sport.

With this update, the fair offers a balanced line-up combining different forms of bullfighting. The programme will include three bullfights, a rejoneo event, the picador novillada, a recortes competition and a training class, creating a full and diverse week of entertainment.

The fair will open on Friday 21 August with the traditional night-time recortes competition. From there, the schedule will unfold progressively, combining training events, popular spectacles and established matadors.

A practical training class will take place on Saturday 22, followed by the rejoneo event on Sunday 23. The picador novillada is set for Monday 24, becoming one of the key highlights of this edition. The final stretch will be dedicated to the bullfights, scheduled from Tuesday 25 to Thursday 27 August.

This new structure introduces an essential intermediate step within the fair, offering a platform to assess the progress of promising young bullfighters in a demanding setting. The organising company will soon announce the breeders that will complete the final line-up.
